The amount Talkiatry billed my insurance went up. Did Talkiatry change its rates?

This year (2024) we're making some changes to the way we bill insurance companies. You may see changes to the amount we bill your insurer, but these changes shouldn't affect how much you pay out of pocket.

Insurance billing is complex, but here's generally how it works. Medical practices, like Talkiatry, have standard rates for visits. When we partner with insurance companies, part of the process is negotiating discounts to those rates.

In the past, we've customized the "Total billed" portion of patients' bills based on their coverage to reflect those discounts. Under the new system, the "Total billed" only reflects the full, undiscounted rate. Your discount is now reflected, along with the amount your insurance covered, in the "Insurance covered" line of your bill.
